Happy October! I know the entire class is looking forward to Halloween, campfires, and Pumpkin Spice everything!

Let's take a look ahead:

Language Arts:

Our Essay of the Week is the final essay without a rubric. We have written a Narrative, an Opinion (with evidence), and now it's time to write our Informational essay. All of these writing assignments are diagnostic assessments for me to see how your student writes and the strengths and weaknesses of the class. They will be formally assessed with an adapted rubric (similar to the Middle School ELA) after this week.

In class, we are reading The Best Part of Me and writing short, descriptive poems (our final diagnostic genre) about the thing that we love most about ourselves.

Each day, we will continue with a couple chapters of our read aloud Trouble Don't Last.

This week we will be analyzing multi-part word problems and constructed response tasks relating to multiplication and division (5.NBT.5 and 5.NBT.6). Expect homework Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday!

Social Studies

We will continue our study of the Aztecs, Incas, Mayans, and Mississippian civilizations.

Science

We are studying the planets and loving it! On Wednesday, we will walk to St. Vincent St. Mary's football field to model the scale of the solar system. Check out the planet video in Resources!
